About digital TV
DVB-T (English Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial) is a European standard for terrestrial (terrestrial) digital television, one of the DVB family of standards.
Best digital image
"Two of the greatest inventions in history: typography, which got us to the books, and television, which pulled us away from them."
(Georges Elgozi)
Progress does not stand still. The first television systems that used the mechanical principle, by modern standards, provided poor picture quality, and viewers could hardly see the blurry silhouettes on the screen. But these were temporary difficulties. Television began to develop actively only when it became purely electronic.
Analog electronic television, familiar to us, gradually reached such a quality that it seemed impossible to further improve it. However, the trend of replacing analog methods of transmitting information has not bypassed television either. Digital television is gradually replacing analogue television.
The main argument of digital TV supporters is image quality. Digital image processing during transmission and reception allows for higher quality. Indeed, rarely at home, a TV shows an ideal picture - the image can go with various kinds of interference, twitch, or even disappear altogether. Many factors can affect the quality of an analog signal.
Excellent picture quality and clarity in digital television receivers is achieved by eliminating the effects of interference. In digital television, an error correction code (ECC) is sent simultaneously with the television signal, which accounts for 10% of the total amount of transmitted data. This makes it possible to receive a picture of the same quality at a large distance from the transmitting antenna as at 1 km from it. The error correction code provides for the verification of the television signal and elimination of failures, and the verification test is carried out while the signal is received by the television receiver. Thus, the quality of the digital signal, and hence the image on the screen, is the same throughout the entire coverage area of the transmitting antenna.
5.1 stereo sound
Unlike analogue signals, digital signals are not transmitted as waves, but in binary form, or as bits. The word binary means "in two parts." In telecommunications, the term binary indicates that the transmitted bits of information have two meanings - on (voltage present) and off (no voltage). The presence of voltage is denoted as one, and absence - as zero. This property of the digital format, in which only two states are provided - there is a signal and there is no signal - allows you to receive and reproduce sounds in their pristine purity. With digital signals, this can be done with a high degree of reliability.
What does 5.1 sound mean? These figures indicate a six-channel sound (5 satellites + subwoofer), which fully retains audio information about the location of the sound source in front and behind in relation to the user. Thus, the person watching TV is as if surrounded by sound from all sides.
VOD service and TV guide
VideoOnDemand (VOD)
In the field of mass media, VOD - VideoonDemand - "video on demand" or "video on demand" is gaining popularity. Viewers no longer want to depend on the TV program, but want to watch movies and series when it suits them.
VideoonDemand in general means the ability to request certain information resources at any time. This can be done through Pay TV, as well as on request, download recordings to a computer or view in an Internet browser in streaming mode.
The first commercial VOD service was launched in Hong Kong around 1990. In the US, the service was first offered by OceanicCable in January 2000 in Hawaii, but is now available throughout the country. VOD streaming systems are available through cable providers (in tandem with cable modems), which use their considerable bandwidth to deliver movies and TV shows to the end user. The most common uses for VOD clients are fast rewind, rewind, and the ability to pause a movie.
In the CIS, this service is just beginning to gain momentum. In particular, in Uzbekistan, UZDIGITAL TV Company plans to launch it in the future.
TV guide (program guide)
TV Guide is a great service that allows you to change channels and view descriptions of broadcasts, turn titles on and off, choose the target language, set reminders and much more. A TV guide can do without a feedback channel if all the necessary information, including program descriptions, is constantly broadcast.
A TV guide is an electronic schedule of broadcasts on all channels, which makes it possible to view which programs and when will be broadcast on each channel, to get acquainted with the description of programs and films. The TV guide can be “expanded” to full screen for easy reading, or it can be viewed in a reduced size at the bottom of the screen, while most of it will show the current channel. In order not to miss the selected TV show or football match, you can set a reminder that will appear on the screen a few minutes before the start of the selected program, even if the TV is currently switched to another channel. The TV guide has a built-in "parental control" function that allows you to compile a list of channels allowed for viewing by children. Access to other channels is protected by a password set by the parents. Spectators very quickly get used to the TV guide and can no longer imagine television without it.
